Modern visitors will find it easy to imagine themselves as pioneer travelers when they step across the threshold of Delafield’s historic Hawks Inn. Built two years before Wisconsin became a state, Hawks Inn originally welcomed farmers in search of a homestead, trappers, traders, territorial politicians, and opportunistic miners. Now renovated and refurbished as a historic site, Hawks Inn is a Wisconsin Landmark on the National Register of Historic Sites and is open for public tours May to October.

The Lunts were, and still today, widely considered the greatest acting team in the history of American theatre.

The museum’s more than 60 historic structures range from ethnic farmsteads with furnished houses and rural outbuildings to the 1880s Crossroads Village with its traditional small-town institutions.

This scenic walkway is located 0.1 miles north of the Ice Age and Lake Country Recreational trails and runs alongside the Bark River, marked with 10 memorial sites honoring veterans from major U.S. conflicts. The walk begins on the eastern end as it passes through wooded areas alongside the Bark River and crosses a bridge leading to the Delafield Fish Hatchery. As you reach the western end of the Veterans Memorial Riverwalk, it follows elevated boardwalks through cattails and marshland before ending at Cushing Memorial Park in Delafield where an elaborate wooden playground and restrooms can be found.
